The Clonagh Herd dates back to march 1989 with the purchase of “Clough Sandra”- a prizewinner at the RDS that year.
Over the next few years we purchased a dozen or so heifers, one of those being “Clonaslee Wanda”, the grand-mother of the herd with close to 20 daughters, grandaughters and great grandaughters breeding in the herd. The Wanda family, are among the elite in the breeding cows at Clonagh and have produced many Champions including Clonagh Margaret and Clonagh Norbert at Elite Spring Sales in Roscommon. Since the foundation of the herd we have always used top AI bulls as well as keep a stock bull. Some of our previous stockbulls included Knocktoran Belvedere, Ballybane Edward, Kilfrush Geraldo and Fardromin Liam, all of whom has left their stamp on the herd.
Shows are a relatively new event for the Clonagh herd. We debuted in the showring in 2003 winning the South Eastern Club Show Herd of the Year thanks to Clonagh Neva, Neola, Nuala & Nelson-Liam. Neva was Reserve All Ireland Yearling Heifer at Tullamore that year as well as Reserve in the All Ireland Progeny Pairs with Neola. Since then be become no strangers to the show circuit traveling to approximately 15 shows per year from Claremorris to Clonakilty not just staying within the boundaries of our own club area. Some of our highlights to date include:
